Environmental policy

1.0 Purpose and scope
To describe Raftákn´s environmental policy.

2.0 General
Raftákn´s goal is to work in harmony with the environment and contribute to a cleaner society. Raftákn will grant one environmental project annually, chosen in consultation with the staff. Raftákn will seek to minimize the adverse environmental impacts of its activities and operations, by choosing economically friendly products and recycle wherever possible.

The aim at lowering power consumption and reduce emissions of harmful gases and waste shall be used as a guideline in the selection of vehicles and in the planning of trips. In order to achieve these goals, Raftákn raises the awareness, interest and expertise of its employees on environmental issues. The environmental policy should be reviewed regularly and updated with improvements, with respect to the environment and sustainable development.

3.0 Classification of waste
Overall classification of waste has been introduced in Raftákn, focusing on reducing waste that goes to landfill by increasing sorting of recyclables.

  • Kitchen waste and other waste suitable for composting, is collected into bins and sent to a composting facility. 
  • Newspapers and other papers are sorted and returned for recycling.
  • Beverage packaging are dried and returned for recycling.
  • Aluminum, plastic and glass are collected and returned for recycling.
  • Corrugated cardboard and other cardboards are collected and returned for recycling.
  • Hazardous waste, such as print cartridges, batteries and other hazardous materials are returned to the relevant facilities.

4.0 Energy consumption

The aim is to lower energy consumption and emissions of waste by:

  • Turning off lights and other electrical devices when not in use.
  • Keeping the environment in mind when purchasing and operating vehicles.
  • Employees are encouraged to travel to work in an eco-friendly manner, and are offered to use eco-friendly company cars during working hours for personal matters.
  • Kitchen waste and other waste suitable for composting, is collected into bins and sent to a composting facility.

5.0 Workspace and environment

  • Limit the use of detergents and focus on the use of eco-friendly cleaning products.
  • Keep workspace clean and tidy, whether it is indoors or outdoors.
  • Maintaining a healthy and clean workspace is a part of every Raftákn´s employee work.
